Primarily economical question of whether to stay or leave your homeland was a pressing issue in this region for each generation, leaving painful scars. Women in particular were often burdened by loss of their loved ones. Those leaving and those staying is a common motif in poems of Marin Franičević, and Mother to Son Leaving for Americas is a touching confession of a mother seeing off her child into a faraway world. Final musical finish of this tragic story is provided by performance of women’s klapa Frecija from Jelsa.
